A few days ago, I watched this lovely duck floating effortlessly in a pond. To me, she looked happy. Maybe her contentment stemmed from the gentle breeze, or the bountiful food, or the warm sun on her feathers…she seemed happy to be exactly where she was.
As I gazed at her, I pondered. Moments of happiness seem fleeting in the human world.
I read somewhere that being happy doesn’t mean everything is perfect. It means you’ve decided to look beyond the imperfections. I admit I don’t always do that…my critical eye can easily take center stage.
I suspect it’s a conscious practice to focus on what’s going well rather than what’s not quite perfect. A key to happiness, perhaps.
So in that moment, I chose to look beyond life's imperfections, and shared a bit of happiness with this beautiful duck.
