He appeared briefly…a common yellowthroat. Usually fast moving and elusive, I was delighted to spot him resting for a moment.

The more I wander, the more I appreciate how special the natural world is. Such beautiful and unique residents, with personalities and preferences. More like us than not, I suspect.

Day by day, as I move deeper and deeper into the natural world, I feel more at home. What a privilege it is to experience the Earth’s family and to feel a part of it.

How very grateful I am…

Contented

Not long ago, I spotted this beautiful green heron at the edge of a stream. Known for being shy and elusive, I was grateful he allowed me into his world.

As I watched him, I felt myself slip into that space where thoughts disappear and time melts away. And I relished the feeling of complete contentment.

I suspect that in that moment I was no longer my ordinary self. For a brief time, I felt connected to everything, and free from human concerns.

My dream is to live from that place…a place where all is well no matter the circumstance.

Making a Difference

I spotted him eating his breakfast, a lovely purple finch. What a joy it was to witness this beautiful nature being. Though he was engaged in an ordinary bird activity, it didn’t feel ordinary to me.

I realized that in his ordinary, this little bird affected me. My spirits rose and my everyday concerns dissolved.

And I had a thought. Maybe in our ordinary, we also make a difference in each other’s day. A kind word, a smile, a simple courtesy…perhaps more impactful than we know.

I recognize that this little bird will never know how he contributed to me that morning. I won’t soon forget him.
