Camouflage

Camouflage…one of nature’s greatest defenses. I thought about that as I watched this bittern seamlessly blend into his surroundings.

And I realized I have my own version of camouflage.

In my human desire to fit in and be accepted by others, I sometimes choose to blend into the background. Perhaps I hide behind a forced smile or remain silent to avoid conflict.

As I’ve grown older and wiser, I’m much more willing to speak my truth. But there are still those occasions when I watch myself don my camouflage. Perhaps it’s the remnants of younger parts of me, the parts that are hesitant for fear of looking foolish.

I suspect it’s all part of being human. Such an interesting journey…

Reassurance

It was one of those mornings…the shadows challenged the light, and my human mind was churning with concerns.

During these tumultuous and uncertain times, I turn to the Earth. It’s all I know to do.

While wandering not long ago, I spotted this golden-crowned sparrow staring off. I couldn’t see what he saw.

And I had a thought. Maybe animals can see what I can’t see with my human eyes. Perhaps a world behind the everyday world. A world of grace, filled with beings who offer comfort and support and wisdom. Always there…

In that moment I exhaled, grateful for the reassurance.

For now, I stay close to the heart of the Earth…and I never feel alone.

Comfort

I watched this lovely dove for a long while as she sat quietly on a winter branch. As time passed, I felt my mood lighten and my spirits lift. And I had a thought.

Nature beings can feel like old friends. Precious companions who quietly support you through challenging times by simply holding your heart.

I suspect animals and trees are natural conduits of comfort. And like old friends, they’re there when you need them. Silent loving support.

As the beautiful dove disappeared into the trees, I smiled, so grateful for her presence…
