I spotted a group of sandhill cranes near a pond, and my heart beat a little faster. So beautiful…
Hundreds of these migratory birds seek respite each fall at my favorite wildlife refuge on their way from Canada to California.
I’ve read that they’re among the oldest living birds on the planet, with fossil records documenting more than 2.5 million years of history. Amazing.
As I watched them forage for food, I realized that I share something with these impressive creatures. I, too, seek respite at the wildlife refuge. A place for rest and rejuvenation to support and sustain me in my everyday life.
Being with animals, plants, stones, and trees in the natural world enlivens and inspires me like nothing else.
How delighted I am to welcome them back…the beautiful sandhill cranes.
