Hummingbirds are so quick…sometimes I hear the whir of their wings but never see them. Yesterday I was fortunate to spot this lovely one sitting on a branch resting for a moment.
As I watched him through my camera lens, I was struck by the spark of life in his eyes…anticipation, delight, hope…the qualities of aliveness I’ve experienced with young children. This little bird was not only surviving, he was thriving.
As I continued wandering, I had a thought. How often do I experience that spark of life? That full-body thrill of joy. Sometimes, yes, but honestly not as often as I’d like.
It’s so easy to get caught in the day to day tasks of living. But I don’t want to merely survive, and settle for a life of security and safety. In my heart of hearts, I know there are so many adventures just waiting to be experienced.
I have much to ponder thanks to this beautiful hummingbird…
