It was her song that captured my attention. This marsh wren’s beautiful voice echoed across the wetlands, clear and melodic as she sang her bird song. Quite a big voice from such a little bird.
As I watched the tiny wren flit among the cattails, I had a thought. In her corner of the world, she isn’t little at all. She contributes mightily to the health and well-being of her community. Dispersing seeds, recycling nutrients back into the soil, keeping ecosystems in balance…her life benefits us all.
And I was reminded that there are no small beings on our planet. Each of us has a critical role to play, with talents and gifts that contribute to the welfare of everyone. No being is unimportant.
I smiled at the beautiful bird, grateful for the thoughts…
