Some say that smiling is a uniquely human characteristic. But as I watched this lovely grebe floating in a pond, I wondered. I detected a slight grin on her face. To me, she was the picture of happiness despite the dreary sky and chilly morning air.
I realize I often put conditions on happiness…if only this would happen or that would happen, then I would be happy.
Wise beings suggest that profound and lasting happiness comes from within. It’s a state of consciousness, rooted in deep-hearted gratitude. And it’s a quality of our true nature, unaffected by the ups and downs of our everyday world.
As I wandered on, I smiled, remembering all that I’m grateful for. And in that moment, I felt true happiness.
