A few days ago, I watched a group of raccoons scurry across a field not far from the trail. I was charmed, appreciating the unexpected family outing during daylight hours.
I’ve read that raccoons in the wild live in community and take care of each other. They generously share food with other group members, showing no sense of greed. Inspiring, I say…
I suspect that caring for others is one of our finest human qualities as well, though stories of kindness rarely make the news.
I see generous acts every day…the man who paid for the stranger behind him in the drive-through line, the woman who stopped traffic to help a lost dog weaving among cars, the young girl in the park who offered to share her snack…so much kindness.
I’m grateful to the raccoons for the reminder about our true nature of loving generosity.
It gives me so much hope for our future…
