I watched this red-winged blackbird chase a hawk from a field of cattails. I suspected this brave bird was defending his family secreted in a nest among the reeds. I admired his courage.
And I had a wondering…did he have a moment of fear as he faced the hawk? I suspect yes, but something propelled him to act in the face of physical peril. What was that?
And I had a thought. Perhaps this little bird instinctively knew and relied on an unseen force. An intangible loving force that supports and forwards life no matter what.
I suspect this life force is divine, the source of us all. It breathes us in every moment and aids us throughout our lifetime. So despite our fears, we can move forward.
I smiled, grateful to the little bird for the reminder of the source of courage…
