A few days ago, I was very fortunate to encounter a herd of six beautiful deer. Living on a wildlife refuge, they're safe from harm, with plenty of food, fresh water, and freedom to wander. The deer were aware of my presence, but allowed me to remain close.
The deer in the photo particularly captured my attention. She glanced over at me several times as she foraged for food. I sensed how content she felt as she exuded ease and grace.
I suspect the deer’s life has not been without challenges, but she has found a place of refuge.
At one point, she looked directly at me. When our eyes met, I experienced something extraordinary…a feeling of timelessness. For those moments, everything slowed and I slipped into a space of peace unlike anything I had ever felt before.
After a while, the deer family disappeared into the forest, and I slowly continued my walk.
This lovely deer gave me a gift I will always remember. A momentary feeling of complete contentment…and a deep knowing that so much more is possible than my human mind could ever conceive of.
I'm very grateful to the deer for the extraordinary experience…
