A couple of weeks ago, I watched this turtle emerge from the water and climb on a log. With mud still clinging to his shell, he appeared to have just awakened from his hibernation deep in the bed of the stream.
He heard the call…the call that whispered that winter is over and the warm sun is returning. I wondered if he remembered digging in the mud and settling in for the long cold winter. Or if he recalled sharing a perch with his turtle friends on sunny days last summer.
I suspect not. Animals live in the moment and don’t fret or focus on the past. Imagine having no memory of the past, but simply an appreciation for the present moment.
To be content in each moment…what a dream life that would be.
