I did a double take. There he was…a buck calmly resting in the tall grass. He was a magnificent creature, watchful but relaxed.
A deer with antlers resting in plain sight...and so close to Christmas. I had a thought. Perhaps he was there to remind me of something.
As I watched him for a time, my thoughts drifted back to my childhood. To the days when I anticipated holidays with excitement and wonder, and unabashedly believed in magic. I remember listening for the sound of reindeer hooves on the roof on Christmas Eve…and I wished on stars, and I knew fairies truly existed.
Over the years, my belief in magic has faded a bit, but within me still lives that magical child. That part of me that holds my hopes and dreams, and sees life as a grand adventure. No worries…she knows that life’s possibilities are endless and each moment is a wonderful gift.
How grateful I am to touch that magical place within me.
And I say thank you to the beautiful deer…whoever he might be.
