Wandering in nature is such a joy for me. I never know who I’ll meet, be it animal, plant, tree, stone, or human. I thought about that as I watched this lovely heron searching for lunch.
And I had a thought. He has no need to leave this land, no need to travel and see the sights. This is his world, a beautifully sacred place. And in that moment I realized how fortunate I was to join him.
There’s a part of me that would love to see more of the world, and I suspect I will in time. But perhaps what my heart is searching for doesn’t require packing a suitcase. Maybe it’s closer to home than I realize.
I suspect that the natural world is the access, a doorway to what I truly seek…joy and peace and love and magic and mystery and delight.
I smiled, grateful to the heron for the insight…
