A few weeks ago, I spotted my first baby coot as he closely followed his mother through the marsh. I was delighted and a bit shocked at the same time.
Perhaps not the prettiest duckling I’ve seen…and then I had a thought.
Who decides what’s beautiful? I’m certain the baby coot is beautiful in his parents’ eyes, as well as in the eyes of the duck community.
As I continued walking, I had a wondering. I was so quick to judge the baby coot’s appearance. What if I looked at him through different eyes? What if I saw him as the Earth does…through my heart rather than through my human eyes?
Seeing through the eyes of the heart...perhaps that’s the secret to appreciating the unique beauty in us all.
I love that idea…
