Yesterday I found this picture I took in Colorado a couple of years ago. And I laughed.
I had forgotten about Chelsea…a well-cared-for trail horse who carried me across fields and up and down hills on a 90-minute tourist adventure.
Thinking back to that summer morning…I was enjoying the slow-paced ride, appreciating the cool breeze and glorious mountain views.
As Chelsea grabbed bites from nearby shrubs, I began to suspect that she would prefer to be spending her morning eating and visiting with her horse friends. I had a feeling that carrying me was low on her list of fun things to do.
But she dutifully followed the trail horse ahead of her. Towards the end of the ride, I felt Chelsea’s pace quicken as she neared the barn. Almost finished…
And in that moment, I realized that Chelsea and I had something in common. I, too, sometimes have things I must do. Not my favorite activities, but necessary ones to function in the everyday world. And I get through them, often more easily than I expected.
And then I breathe a sigh of relief and celebrate a bit…just like Chelsea.
