For the past several months, a friend and I have been helping in a school garden. What an incredible experience it has been.
School is out now, and I miss my garden children. Looking back…the children were so earnest and enthusiastic as they dug in the soil, admired the worms, planted seeds, and watched the plants grow…strawberries, lettuce, beans, marigolds…they loved them all.
The children readily embraced the indigenous tradition of gently blowing on seeds to combine their energy with the emerging plants. They cheered for the plants, and thanked the sun, the water, and the unseen beings who watched over our garden.
What moved me most was the effortlessness of it all. The children’s lightheartedness, delight, and unbridled enthusiasm was contagious.
I am so honored to have partnered with the purity and innocence of children. My time with them has reawakened the seeds of hope within me...hope for the future, hope for our magnificent planet.
Truth be told…the garden truly grew me. For that I am very grateful.
