One windy day not long ago, I watched this harrier glide across a field. She continually adjusted her body, partnering with the wind’s power. She didn’t fight the current or succumb to the wind’s strength. She simply flowed.
As I watched her work in concert with the wind, I had a thought. Being in the flow required that the harrier be fully present and aware in each moment, present to every nuance of the wind.
Much has been written about the importance of living in the present moment. I’ve had brief experiences of it, but never sustained for long time periods. Despite my best intentions, my busy mind has routinely pulled me away.
As I focused on the harrier, I could feel her intense concentration. And for a time, my understanding of being fully present moved beyond my intellect into my body. It was exhilarating.
What a gift that experience was. I long to capture that feeling again…
