One very cold windy day last week, I went out to the wildlife refuge. Wearing my warmest coat and gloves, I braved the elements.
I encountered this heron standing in open water, fishing as he does every day. Watching him stand completely still in the biting cold, I was inspired.
I knew there were physiological reasons that he could withstand bitter temperatures, but it was his spirit that captured my attention.
Facing adversity, he stood strong and steady, undaunted by the frigid winds. With quiet dignity, he continued on with his life. No complaints, no avoidance, he simply moved forward.
