We watched each other for a bit, this charming junco and I. Perched on a branch, he appeared to be enjoying his bird day. As I studied him, I felt my body relax and my mood lighten. And I had a thought.
No matter my mood when I enter the natural world, I’m more hopeful when I leave.
To me, the natural world is a place of inspiration. Perhaps the water and trees and plants and animals and stones are designed to naturally absorb distress and replenish hope. The hope necessary to gracefully move through the trauma and drama of the everyday world.
As the little bird disappeared into the trees, I smiled, once again assured that all is well.
I quietly thanked him…my beacon of hope.
