How does he do that? How does he perch on one leg and not tip over? As I watched this lovely cinnamon teal duck, I marveled at his ability to balance.
I’ve read that many birds balance on one leg to regulate body temperature. By tucking one leg under their feathers, less of their body is exposed to the elements. Interesting…
We humans face balance issues as well. Not the standing on a log kind of balance, but the balance in how we live our lives. Balance between work and relaxation, self-care and caring for others…so many things vie for our time and attention.
So what is balance? Is it paying equal attention to everything?
Or is it more about making conscious choices and decisions about how we spend our time? Yes, we all have duties and obligations, but what about our duty to our hearts?
Maybe balance is about making time for our hearts’ desires…time for activities that inspire and ignite and delight us. After all, we’re here to experience joy and fulfillment.
So perhaps it’s time to rethink my days…
