Winter Visitors

Fox sparrows are winter visitors to the Pacific Northwest. I was delighted to see this charming little bird foraging for food.

As I watched him uncover seed after seed, I had a thought.

On that day, we were both visitors…the little bird in search of food, myself in search of peace and tranquility.

The Earth provides so much. She is always welcoming, and Her love for us never wavers. No need to earn it. All that’s needed is to open and receive it.

Family and Friends

I suspected they were related…two beautiful hooded mergansers. 

They paddled around a pond, perhaps chatting about their duck world happenings.

As I watched the lovely mergansers, I had a wondering. What would life be like without family and friends?

I’m so thankful for all the human support I receive every day. Reassurance when doubt creeps in, wise words when my own thinking is clouded, treasured companionship. All those who cheer me up and cheer me on.

Family and friends…how very thankful I am.

Winter

It was a particularly rainy morning last week when I spotted him…a beautiful hawk. In a glimmer of sunlight, he was resting and drying his wet feathers.

As I watched him, I had a thought. Nature beings follow the natural rhythms of the Earth. And winter is a time of intense quiet when nature turns inward to rest and rejuvenate.

I suspect the hawk was a reminder to slow the pace of life and slip into the quiet more and more. To slow my thoughts and welcome the dreams and visions of my heart, and to begin to feel what’s possible.

Perhaps the key to gracefully navigating an uncertain and uncharted world.
