A Practice

My heart always beats a little faster when I see eagles. So powerfully majestic…

This particular eagle appeared to be in no hurry to resume hunting. It seemed he was awaiting the exact right moment, perhaps listening to the guidance of the Earth…heart guidance. And I had a wondering.

How often do I follow my heart rather than my mind?

Wise beings suggest that deep knowing comes from the heart, the seat of the soul. And it’s a practice, requiring time and focus and attention. Well worth the effort, I’m certain.

As I watched this beautiful eagle eventually take flight, I smiled, grateful for the inspiration…

Blessing

He was simply doing his ordinary duck things…paddling around, diving for food, traveling with his mate. Yet I was completely captivated by him. And as I watched this beautiful ring-necked duck, I had a thought.

The Earth is constantly striving to capture our attention with Her unique residents. Her animals and trees and plants and stones are like sirens of old, calling to us. So many intriguing beings.

They remind us that we have a natural home with the Earth…a peaceful, fascinating, and ever-changing landscape that’s always available. A place where you can come as you are and simply be yourself.

What a blessing…I am beyond grateful.

Adversity

One morning, I watched this hawk hunting over a field. He easily adjusted his body to accommodate the strong breeze. And I had a wondering.

Was he lamenting the weather, wishing for sun and warmth? I suspect not. My suspicion is that animals don’t view adversity as positive or negative. They simply face it, adapt and change, and move forward.

As I watched the hawk gracefully land in the grass, I had a thought. Perhaps adversity is simply a tool. A tool that precipitates change within ourselves. Maybe it’s meant to stir our imagination and ignite our ability to create newly. A tool of evolvement…

So when adversity arises in my life, perhaps I could see it through a different lens. And allow imaginative and creative thoughts rather than worry and lament.

I suspect I’m on to something…inspired by a beautiful hawk.
